How to Use Pedi Paws

The nail clipper is designed in a round shape, making it easy to hold. Instead of cutting pieces off the nail, this nail clipper files the nail down. It does this by spinning quickly, and a ring of sturdy sandpaper is mounted on the file.

• Gently hold the animal's paw. It is important to do this in a place where your pet feels safe, for example in their bed or on a blanket in the garden.
• It may be a good idea to distract the animal. For example, another person can pet or give treats while you work.
• Start by taking a little at a time, and watch where the nail becomes "alive." This is usually where the nail goes from being grayish/almost transparent to opaque. If you file the nail too far down, it can start to bleed and it will hurt your pet.
• Make sure the nail has as few "jags" as possible. The smoother the edge is, the harder it is for things to get caught in the nail, which can cause it to break or split.
• You can replace the small ring on an electric nail clipper if it becomes too worn.
